What We Love
With V-day fast approaching, ISITE'ers penned some valentines to the world wide web itself.

I like the way you work it. No Diggity. Remember last week when I was looking into all that antiquated, out-dated camera equipment that I knew nothing about and you held my hand the entire way? You were all like “watch this” and showed me forums in which I could glean knowledge, hobby sites extensively listing equipment and supplies, video sites giving step-by-step walk-throughs of how to use the equipment and finally classified advertisements and online auctions to help me obtain the materials. And then I was all like “I could see us together for a long time”.

I hear that you’ve been sleeping around. Back in 1995, when we met, you were the perfect mate. But now, you’ve been around the block with marketers, robots, ninjas, advertisers, and even Chuck Norris. Frankly, you disgust me. I want a divorce. Oh, and I’m keeping the house.

Thanks for making it so easy to reconnect with all the friends I’ve lost track of through the years. Without you, I’m not sure how we all would have found each other. I <3 you.

¿Cómo haga te quiero? Muy easy, Internet. I love collecting all my favorite pictures, como me con the governor, el presidente, y me con all my favorite bands–y sharing them all on my Flickr page! Y who doesn’t savor the opportunity to make idle threats of VIOLENCE con Twitter? Not me! Y most of all, te amo el Google Latitude. Whole new way to find location of clients who are late con feedback. Now I find them, maybe sipping coffee, y stand outside coffeehouses looking in y glaring. Hard work, but muy effective. Gracias, Internet! Besos!

Internet, oh Internet, when I look at you with those sidelong glances, I’m attracted to those same qualities I found in a mate. YOU’RE JUST SO DAMN SMART! Big vocabulary? Check–and you humble daily with thefreedictionary.com challenge. Cultured? Quite, and you’re all to happy to share the trove of IMDB.com. In with all the right folks? Of course–and you’re happy to introduce them via LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter. But Internet, most of all, I love that you’re like ANY good arm candy: with all that knowledge at my fingertips, you make ME look good.

Thank you for changing my life. I not only found many other people who are just like me thanks to you, it helped me find my calling in life. There are so many reasons why I love you, that I don’t have enough room to say all of them. Thank you. Thank you for making the world a BETTER place.

I know we’ve had a turbulent romance. I was distraught when my money did not help the Nigerian Prince like you promised. I cried the first time you showed me “Chocolate Rain” on YouTube, and I laughed until I cried discovering the wonder that is Fail blog. You’ve been there for me when I was lonely – flipping through MySpace to find the next love of my life, hungry – searching for the perfect bacon infused recipe, and excited – to watch the most recent episode of Mad Men. No matter what from dial-up to DSL you’ve been my network to lean on and I’ll cherish you always. ttyl & ily Allison

I love that day or night, you can distract me with profound thinkers, enchanting live video streams of kittens, random facts on anything I can think of, and oh yeah, work-related stuff too. Your siren song tempts me daily.

You are the smartest person I know. Anything I desire, you give me. How you work, I have no idea – I just know I LOVE you and would be lost without you. Literally.

Thanks for taking my stomach to some restaurants, my writing to some readers, my curiosity to some facts, my imagination to some stories, my life to my friends and my heart to my family. Oh, and thanks for bringing me back home, too.

I love your ability to remove the middleman, particularly when it comes to the distribution of creative media like music and film.

Typically, the greatest relationships are forged when the individuals are inspired to be better by the other participant in the relationship. Internet, I don’t know how you feel about me, but I am who I am because of you. You taught me how to cook. You corrected the song lyrics I swore I knew. You settled many a bet between friends. You reminded me to take an umbrella even though the sky looked clear. You found deals for incredible travel opportunities. You strengthened familial relationships with ease of contact. You managed my cash monies, helped me
lurkkeep tabs on friends, and provided an unlimited landscape of learning. You allowed me to be a published star. Long story short, you made me muchfunnier, smarter, more interestingbetter in every sense of the word than I could have ever been on my own. XOXO.Love, Natalie

I love that you give the ability for artistic output with the push of a button. I love that we no longer have to buy the Encyclopedia Britannica. My love for you is so deep that you will always have a section of my home devoted to you. Maybe one day if we go all the way, you can be a part of my phone too. But let’s just take it one day at a time.

Please do all of my grocery, clothes, birthday, electronics, toy, and of course, Valentine’s Day shopping for me. Make sure everything gets dropped off at my door.
